Today we’re talking about cigar etiquette: how to behave in a cigar lounge, things to do, things to not do.

Real quick, we’re going to go over what we’re smoking.

Mark: I’m smoking the Tatuaje Conoju 2012. Has a great brand, their bands are very minimalistic, and I think it’s a brand that’s not really talked about too much I would say.

Jared is smoking the Oliva Melano. Which is the broke man’s Padron, ironically.

Zachary is smoking the Besa cigar.

Alex is smoking the Pappy Van Winkle, which was requested by a couple people on social media.

Cigar etiquette, you know, rule number one: I see Jared as his Cutters over here, his lighter over here, you know what? I’m just gonna take it. Yeah, don’t be that guy. That wasn’t very nice. Don’t just take someone else’s stuff. Ask him politely, most cigar guys will be down to share their cutters and lighters.

Speaking of cutters, Mark got a new cutter last week. He got the cigar knife cutter from Les Fines Lames, we’re going to call it the Finesse. Made in France.

Real quick, I wanted to add that the Pappy Van Winkle cigar smells like barbecue hickory wood, almost like when you walk into a barbecue joint. It smells sweet, but it tastes salty, without lighting it, the wrapper tastes salty and barbecue. We’ll see how this goes.

Anyway, when you walk to the Cigar Lounge for the very first time, this is for the very new guy that doesn’t know what’s going on, he hasn’t smoked a cigar before, if you’re that guy: don’t be intimidated because honestly a lot of those guys are super chill, the guys that work there, even customers and stuff. If you walk in and say “hey, I’m a new cigar smoker I’m not sure what I like, can you point me in the right direction?”

I mean, first of all it’s their job, but a lot of the time it’ll be super cool, super nice and even be kind of excited to share their knowledge with you. So don’t be afraid to ask.

By the way, today’s whiskey is Horse Soldier Small Batch Bourbon whiskey. Hand selected, it’s forged in fire, legendary men signature, legendary spirits. This whiskey is actually made by the guys who went over and kicked the Taliban’s ass.

That was given to me, actually, by Donovann Musa who was here in the last episode.

Back to the Pappy Van Winkle, it tastes better than it smells, I’ll be honest with you. It literally tastes like a campfire. Apparently, it’s aged in Pappy Van Winkle barrels.

Now, if you do ask for a recommendation at the Cigar Lounge, this is more for the guys that have been smoking, don’t go in there and be like “yeah what do you what do you recommend?” and then to have the guy take you through the whole thing and then be like “Yeah, I’m gonna stick to my Macanudos.”

If you were set on smoking a cigar before you go in there, don’t ask for a recommendation, unless you’re gonna at least buy it for later.
